    Power Drain

Heres the story, I did some modding to get independant fog lights, and then I did it so that the lows come on with the highs. Well, after a couple days of lighing bliss, the car just dosent start. I turns over like 2 time, then nothing. Fuck. Well I undo the indy fog light relay, and try the car. Starts right away, no hesitation. So I figure problem solved, no. After like 2 days of the car starting everytime, today when I was going to school, nothing. Just like before, just that i dont have the fogs independant. Hmm well danm it. I go to school, come back this afternoon, and take out the 2 fuses that I wired together for the 4 beams to come on at the same time. Again nothing. This is even with a jump. So this is where I am now. Do I have a bad alternator? battery? is something I dont know about draining power when ever I leave the car? Anyone with similar problems? Thanks.

Do you have a battery charger? If so, do a 3 min charge test. If not sorry. Test your alt, and id say check and recheck your custom wiring.

Sorry to bring this from the depths but the problem is back. I bought a new 80 dollar battery (im on a budget) And this morning I try to start the car and It turns over but I get nothing. It has been getting progressively worse up untill today when It didnt start.
Im wondering how do you chech the alt? Could the belt be slipping or something and its not getting enough power? Could it be a bad wiring job to the euro headlights? I took out the relay wiring, but could on the relays be bad and its causing a drain?
I need help urgently so tell me anything you know. Thanks boys.

Don't waste your money on an expensive battery. While there are some slight differences between cheap and expensive batteries, they are not enough to justify the price difference. With an expensive battery, you are simply paying for a longer warranty. The determining factor for battery life is how the battery is used. If your charging, system is in good shape and adequate for the electrical needs of the car(no excessive power draining stereos requiring a higher amp alternator etc), then your battery will last a long time regardless of how expensive it is. So, save your money and get the $35 walmart battery. Having said that, it's easy to test your alternator.

When the car is running, simply put a voltmeter between the positive and negative terminals of your battery. You should get 14 volts or better if your charging system is working properly. If not start finding out why - wiring or alternator. You can measure the voltage output from the alternator or take it off and have autozone or whoever test it. Good luck.
