Help starter replaced, but now won't engage

So on me new 90ix, I had an intermitant starting problem... it sounded as if the starter was just spinning. I just bought the car, and the PO said he replaced the flywheel, thinking that was the problem... but a few days in my possession, and it did it again.

In checking with the Bentley, it seemed to indicate a bad starter or solenoid. So I ordered up a starter from BavarianAuto, which comes with the solenoid attached. All installed, and now there is nothing intermitant about it, the starter just spins!

What am I missing here? I thought this would have fixed it? Anything else involved here?

Just to close the loop on this... I finally figured out that the little bit of play in the old starter shaft made it work, while the new one wouldn't. Clearly there is something off a tiny bit in the geometry of the engine and transmission (it is a replaced engine), and the new starter was just missing the teeth of the flywheel by a tiny ammount (like 1-2mm). I ended up making a shim out of copper wire to direct the starter just a speck over the flywheel... and it worked... hack mechanic, but it worked.
