the oil light on the check panel only comes on when you are a quart low (or the sensor is malfunctioning)

Theres an oil light on your cluster panel (somewhere on the bottom row) that will come on when oil pressure is low/gone. I forget what it's set to tho. 15psi? But the switch for it is under the oil filter and is screwed into the block. It has a single wire that goes to the wiring harness. If that wire is broken though, the light will never come on (ask me how I know)

      Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

if you need a skid pad... you shouldn't have room for a skid pad. Seriously though... My e30 is a freak of nature. Odometer still working with no gear replacement at 250k, oilpan just keeps taking hits without becoming smashed on the pavement.... I actually took it out to a funeral in the country and on some wicked bad roads while I was out there... and I was CERTAIN I had finally done it in after the combination off road trek+ railroad crossing jump... because it was one of those hard impacts, not the "oh there goes my shit scraping coz I'm low".... more one of the everyone in the car goes "oooh ouch oww..." when the pan just slams pavement.... fucking monster potholes and railroad tracks...
