Giving up on central locks.. now on the driverside lock cylinder.

Problem1: the arm that contact the lock/unlock latch has a spring loaded arm that doesnt allow me to lock the door via the key. This is all I need.

Took it out to try to fab something up.. noticed the arm was actually broken.

So I want to replace this with a Solid arm. Can I:

a: order a replacement part without the spring? Anyone know the number?

b: replace with a passenger side lock cylinder arm? will it fit.. not sure if they are specific.

Anyone feel my pain on this one? currently lockless on the drivers side :)

    Been there, done that.

You can buy the repair kit for the lock cylinder. It's only $39 (at Pelican Parts), great piece, gives you a pretty much new lock cylinder. Easy job to do. But it's only available for the driver's door.

2nd option is to get a good used lock cylinder. I did this for my passenger side, and lucked out getting one that looks virtually unused. After all, it's the passenger side, it probably hasn't been used more than a handful of times.

        1. test central locking system: 4 minutes and you are doing it wrong.

Pull boot on drivers door jamb. Find 2 grey wires, one with a yellow stripe, one with a green stripe. Use paperclip, chunk of wire or whatever to apply a momentary ground to wire (close latch on drivers door before testing so it can lock freely).

        2. Replace rusty central locking module

        3. Install keyless entry: done.

problem is the PO has f'd this whole thing up.
          1. The microswitches are not mounted.. and they are hardwired. (found it sitting down in the door.

          2. The CLCU was missing the top cover... so I know they have f'd with these things for sure.

          3. I can't get a single but of action at any place. Trunk, DS, PS, Gas Door.
I can here the CLCU click when I push the microswitch on the driver side.

I will give your test a shot.

I have alsoran through the tests in the electrical manual you have linked to, but I never got ny proper responses.

OK, so since it is FUBAR'd, go find a different central locking relay. The click you hear from pressing the pinswitch is NOT the central lock system, it is the domelight relay: mounted on the same bracket.

If you are handy with relays, you can make your own door lock system, but why bother when E30 parts are so plentiful.

            hang in there, man!

              Update:

So I have two cars. My beater has working central locks.... I have nothing but time so I ...
Pulled the "Bad" unit from my good car....

Pulled the good unit from my bad car...

then tried the bad unit in the bad car: did not work .. only got that pinging/click noise (not from relay as.. I guess thats what a bad CLCU sounds like) AKA the bad unit is indeed bad.

So... tried putting the good unit in the good car. Nothing at all not a damn peep and a very big let down. I tried from the trunk, driverside, passenger side, inside the car pushing and pulling on the lock knobs...
              not a peep.

Did I mention this car's PO was a f'n idiot.

Anyhow... I pulled the good CLCU and put it back in the bad car and tested it again and it worked just fine. So I am going to leave it be and just find a way to rig the lock cylinder arm so that it doesnt give when trying to lock the door.

              bummed: :(:(
