    Factory Exhaust Question

    hey
Im planning on getting a performance exhaust, probably magnaflow, but theres one problem. The rents put a brand new bmw muffler on my car in the spring when I told them not to, b/c i was gonna buy a performance exhaust. Is there a way that I can remove toe factory muffler from the car and get it shrink wrapped or protected in some way so I can store it? So then I can put the new exhaust on the car?
    Thanks
    Nathan

How were you going to put the new one on if you don't know how to take the old one off?

It's 4 bolts (13mm?) right in the middle of your car. Jack it up, take em off, under the rubber hangers and take the muffler off. Then shrink wrap it or whatever.

I know how to remove the muffler, I just wanted to be able to store it for possible use in the future. Would it be a good idea to take it to a muffler shop to get it wrapped up?

Why do you want to wrap it up? So long as it is stored in a relatively dry and clean enviroment it isnt going to rust or otherwise deteriorate.

There is no need to "shrink wrap" it.

If you really insist, just wrap it in saran wrap.

If it was designed to handle whatever road conditions come with the typical care most people give to their muffler (none) for the life of the car, it's sturdy enough to sit in a clean dry place unwrapped :P

If anything, give it a good cleaning, check for rust (although it's only a year old, so there shouldn't be any) and put it in the closet.
