Shifter Problems.... Help

I have a problem w my shifter. It seems that the rod came out of the transmission and now is just dangling right by the drive shaft. I am in gear and its 5th and i cant get up to speed. I have to go to work in the morning so please help. Sry i couldnt get any more info about the shifter problem I don't really know much about them. But i do have pictures :D.

The part that's hanging down in the first photo should have been held onto the transmission selector rod via a cross pin. The spring clip that keeps the pin in place looks to still be in place, so I'm at a loss to explain the disconnect. Take a look at the selector rod where it sticks out of the transmission. Perhaps the failure is there, which would mean a replacement transmission.
