A few weeks ago, I was searching the forums to find a topic to see if I could mount up an aftermarket electric fan while keeping the A/C stuff. I didn't find anything and ended up doing measurements to see what would fit. I bought a 16"x4" (Diameter x Thickness). I just wanted to post up that it fit (within a few millimeters -- literally nothing larger in the thickness direction would fit).
I used the flex-a-lite 398 as shown in this link http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=FLX%2D398&N=700+115&a utoview=sku
To get it in the car (86 eta), I removed the front bumper and the front valance (including the metal valance). I removed the stock fan and bent the mount on the drivers side of the car out of the way. Then I used the provided equipment to mount it through the condenser.
Overall I'm happy with it but I haven't had it out in traffic on a hot day. I mainly put it in to help with the A/C, but I'll eventually remove the engine fan to see if it will keep the car cool without it. It is much quieter than the stock aux fan when comparing the full speed of both of them.
I've got a couple crappy cell phone pictures that I'll post up later when I can get them off the phone.
