you were right, i got 2 194 bulbs for $2, pulled the cluster and they fit right in, the only thing is that the packaging didnt say if they were 3W or 5W.... -
The bulb will pull out of that black socket, and a new 194 bulb will drop right into place. I did my speedo/fuel light last week. If it's too stuck, the sockets look like the same ones that Ford used for a long time, if they're the same, the electrical section at AutoZone, Advanced, Pep Boys, O'Reilly, CarQuest, NAPA, etc. will have them in stock.the little pushbutton did nothing, and yes the light would just blink when the doors were locked, but i already have a light like that on my factory head unit, so i unplugged the light and pushbutton and also disconnected the microphone since i dont use that either
i still cant figure out what the red button was for but it didnt affect the locking of the doors so whatever now its not taking up space in there
stereoinstaller im not sure what you mean about the transmitter being built into a key fob like volkswagen, but if it helps the thing that unlocks the doors is made by autoloc and has a unlock, lock, I, and II buttons on it, and lights up green when you push one of the buttons, like in the picture of the setup above
lastly are you guys sure about the 196 bulb? the bulb that came out of the car doesnt come off the socket that fits it into the instrument cluster, so i think it may be a dealer partLeave a comment:

by switch you mean the red button? The LED flashes when the car is locked: just might fool the thieves into thinking you have an actual alarm instead of a keyless entry system...so it does nothing, basically.
Either way, it should be mounted on the dashboard somewhere...my vote is right below the cigarette lighter.
The switch is for changing system programming. Things like chirp length, light flash parameters, lock/unlock on ignition or programming new transmitters...apparently, you didn't read your manual, did you?
didnt get a manual, just a one page installation guide, which was uselessLeave a comment:

Never send a mechanic to do an installers job...what a mess.In the pic it looks like there is a big bundle of wires, is it possible my mechanic (who installed the system after I gave up trying) just cut the wires to save space, and since they werent connected to anything? I'm still wondering about that little red button and red light....

the kick down 'feature' just changes the rpm the car will shift at. if you depress the gas pedal down to the button but not depressing the button (like 90%) then it will shift at around 4500rpm, but if you go WOT it will shift at 5250rpm
lol thanks for the warnings about the 3W bulb but i caught it right off the bat
about the alarm thing: I have the stellar keyless entry system sold on bavauto:

Stellar's new BMW45 keyless entry unit wires easily and reliably into your 1975-1991 BMW. Why pay over $300 for a factory alarm when all you want to do is simply lock and unlock your BMW by remote? The BMW 45 allows you to add flashing parking-light confirmation. This will assure you that your BMW has been securely locked.
Stellar's BMW45 allows you remotely lock and unlock your doors at a fraction of the factory price, and for added convenience the accessory button on your BMW45 will work in conjunction with other BMW compatible accessories for remote operation of features like power trunk, remote start, or power windows/convertible top.

I have suck a button in my car. the red button, but next to it a switch that flips.
Mine's stuck right under the AC below the AC Controller.
Plus, how does this kick down feature work?Leave a comment:

Box in pic 5 is 100% for certain a keyless entry module.
Let me say this right now: your installer was a fucking HACK. Typical crap aftermarket ball of wires...and too damn lazy to install the LED or the programming switch. The wires are cut because they are not needed for your vehicle/feature set, but more of them could have been used had they cared at all about what they do to other peoples' cars.
I would (and have) fired anyone for such hackery, in an instant.

I'm 100% sure it's an alarm/keyless entry box.
That button is the kick-down button for the automatic transmission (makes the car shift later when you're passing cars/flooring it). Only automatics have that "feature".Leave a comment:

Important note here.
That Bulb...Do NOT use a 5w instead of a 3w.Leave a comment:
