Either way, it should be mounted on the dashboard somewhere...my vote is right below the cigarette lighter.

The switch is for changing system programming. Things like chirp length, light flash parameters, lock/unlock on ignition or programming new transmitters...apparently, you didn't read your manual, did you?
by switch you mean the red button?

didnt get a manual, just a one page installation guide, which was useless

      Yeah, the little pushbutton.

So no manual? What kind of crap is that! Is this the one with the transmitter built into a key fob, like VW?

the little pushbutton did nothing, and yes the light would just blink when the doors were locked, but i already have a light like that on my factory head unit, so i unplugged the light and pushbutton and also disconnected the microphone since i dont use that either

i still cant figure out what the red button was for but it didnt affect the locking of the doors so whatever now its not taking up space in there

stereoinstaller im not sure what you mean about the transmitter being built into a key fob like volkswagen, but if it helps the thing that unlocks the doors is made by autoloc and has a unlock, lock, I, and II buttons on it, and lights up green when you push one of the buttons, like in the picture of the setup above

lastly are you guys sure about the 196 bulb? the bulb that came out of the car doesnt come off the socket that fits it into the instrument cluster, so i think it may be a dealer part

The bulb will pull out of that black socket, and a new 194 bulb will drop right into place. I did my speedo/fuel light last week. If it's too stuck, the sockets look like the same ones that Ford used for a long time, if they're the same, the electrical section at AutoZone, Advanced, Pep Boys, O'Reilly, CarQuest, NAPA, etc. will have them in stock.
