    Recovering the wiring (motor)

I am trying to keep the quality up on the M30 swap so it looks and functions well, no "if I did this" at the end.

So I am looking at the motors wiring and its a little rough. The black covering is falling off in some places or has fell off already.

What should I use to cover it up again? Is there just a high heat tape or some kinda of wrap that would work best? It obviously has to withstand a good amount of heat.

I searched but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Thanks for your help in advance

You can get wiring sleeving in various sizes that is split for retrofitting at many auto parts houses.

If you want to use Flex-Loom, go ahead...just remember that if you use the red, yellow or blue EVERYONE on R3V will call you a fag...but black is still pretty damn lame.

If you want a sanitary look, get yourself a few rolls of 3M "Super33" electrical tape. It is about $4.00/roll and worth every damn penny.

Tape works fine until a bit of oil gets on it. Then the adhesive is dissolved by the oil and the tape starts coming loose (and makes a sticky mess). New vinyl sleeving is the best fix, but that requires removal and re-installation of connectors. Better to use flex-loom

Use the Super33. Its OEM quality. Not to mention, if you've got oil spraying all over everything in your engine compartment then you've got more important things to worry about. ;)

This stuff works pretty good too, but way more of a PITA if you ever want to remove it.

I'll try the Super 33. I am looking for something that is OEM looking, nothing "ricey".

Someone also recommended friction tape, supposedly that is actually what BMW used. Is this what Super 33 is? I guess its hard to find though i.e only online, but haven't checked.

Super33+ is a high quality vinyl adhesive electrical tape.

I would suggest using self vulcanizing silicone rubber tape such as Scotch 70. It has better temperature resistance and does not leave adhesive behind when it is removed.

Alright, I got 33+ and 3M's friction tape. I am going to see which one works the best.

                        Thanks again for the help
