    window regulator or motors ???

Damn there not cheap !!! Im taking it that my motors are fried but I hate to spend the cash if theres a chance the regulators could be at fault as well. The car was sitting for 5 years, I pulled the door panels and outside rubber -----it was all hard anyway. I sprayed the regulator track down with wd-40 (the motor too) and got it to run up and down a couple of times. Motor got pretty damn hot. Next day it would just budge up and down and then smoked a little. Motor will run like hell if I take it off the track, but of course theres no load. Do regulators go bad ?? Geeez , four motors and tracks is over a grand !!!!

What happens it the regulator wears out and the motor jams against the sprocket.

Pop the little center cap off so you can see the allen drive in the middle of the regulator. Run the motor for a second or three, you will see the sprocket flop around...obvious wear.

I have a pile of spare regulators...the mark of the E30 owner is always having spare parts.

Yeah , I popped that cover off and used an allen to get the window all the way up. Sooo I went ahead and used the allen to crank it up a down a couple of times......the allen hole stripped I guess cause the regulator is shot huh ???
