    tachometer getting stuck at 3k rpms

    every once in a while my tachometer will get stuck at 3k rpms. i smack the dash and it starts to work fine again. dunno what it is.

    probably yout tach getting gummed up from old age my coolant/temp guage does that it wont read unless i hit it.

      How would it get "gummed up" if it's in a sealed unit its entire life? It's not like a lot of dirt gets in there.

      Have you ever had the cluster apart? If so, did you remove the gauge needles?

      If not, maybe something in the tach's motor is bad. Try swapping your tach with one from a known working cluster.

        I'VE never had the cluster apart. the previous owner probably did. i'll see if i can get known working cluster to work in there. i think my driver side window motor is going bad too :(

          You have a short circuit in the tach. Only way to fix is to replace with a good unit or to have it repaired at a speedometer shop, like Palo Alto Speedometer or North Hollywood Speedometer.
