My buddy got his e36 325i totalled last week and is getting rid of parts cheap. He has a supersprint exhaust that he said I can have for 150 if I come and take it off. I am in dire need of a new muffler because I got a fix it ticket for mine last week so I was wondering if I could weld this one up and use it even though it's meant for a an m50?

Well... if you take the supersprint off, you might need the cats/center section to bolt up to. If you take those, you might as well take the manifolds/downpipes. If you're gonna take those, you might as well take the engine too.Michael Spiegle

I would snag the engine, except that the engine is pretty weak(he hardley put a nose on me when we race), w/ 180k miles, and it's non-Vanos. Doesn't really seem worth my time to do the swap. Plus the car has been totalled by insurance so he's just trying to take little stuff that the insurance company won't notice like m3 bumpers, side skirts, exhaust, c/f hood, and interior peices.
I'm not really trying to make it a removable cat back, I was planning on just welding it up to my stock pipes. I figure i'll only have to use a little piping to make it all connect.

Avus, people I believe have successfully put E36 exhausts on E30s. The difficult part would probably be hanging it. I think Fred Kim was trying to put a E36 M3 muffer on his car.
It'd be more trouble than it is worth. Just get a cheap dynamax super turbo muffler and have a cheap exhaust place weld it on.
Have your friend sell his exhaust to an E36 person, or buy it and resell it. And then buy the motor from him, and put it in your car.
