Zinc levels in oil: good additive known?

Since motor oil has so much less zinc in it than when my poor old M20 was made, it has made itself very noisy, especially the valvetrain. I have adjusted it twice now, and am thinking I may need to use oil additives on a permanent basis.

    Any chemists in the house?

I am gonna be looking for a basic zinc additive, not too expensive, not too many other things in there. I cannot seem to find any that list their ingredients. I used some Crane Cams break in additive to make things MUCH quieter, but although it is nearly pure zinc in oil, I just cant swing that kind of dough for an additive.

    Thanks!
    Luke

good call, Den. I will try Lubro-Moly this oil change, this week.

Anyone have bad experiences with it?

Anyone ever read the "oil filter study" showing what crap Fram filters are?
If you want to read it and you have "Word" (and who doesn't?) PM me and I will send it to you. Hell of a read, and will convince anyone to never use any fram product again.
Not like any of us would run it on a bimmer anyway...

I tried the MoS2 in my beater Sentra first. No ill effects and ran quieter. Then my 325i. Same effect, but the M20 is still a relatively noisy motor compared to others. A lot of the noise is from the fuel injectors. I haven't used the MoS2 long enough to swear by it, but LubroMoly makes good sh!t. Some guys will tell you that all additives are garbage, and the only thing that is worth a sh!t is synthetic oil, but I'm worried about synthetic oil finding some leaks in my M20. I use Castrol 20w-50 for high mileage motors.

I like OEM filters. Mahle or Mann. If I *had* to buy one at Pep Boys, I'd use Purolator.
I just posted that ETY link because they had a description of the MoS2.
I bought the stuff for ~$3.50/can from Patrick at BMA. Call him. He'll hook you up with anything you may need for an E30.

As mentioned above, the noise can be coming from your injectors (if it isn't the valves). Try running a can or two of Sea Foam (search for the thread regarding it) through your tank.

Yeah...my injectors are noisy as hell. I think I am gonna grab some Dynamat hoodliner crap and make some little jackets...couple of zip ties should keep it in place. I want to switch to electric fans just to keep the noise down!

I will find some of that Sea Foam stuff. Does it help quiet the injectors? I have a spare set I am gonna ship off to RC engeneering (been using them for years) to balance and pattern match and rebuild and shit.

Enjoy the weather, soon we will be whining about winter!
