    engine noise

Hey, I recently adjusted my valves, and that greatly reduced the valve noise. Then, today I filled my car up with mid-grade gas, and now it runs very smooth with only minor valve noise. But, now that most of the valve noises gone I have noticed a sound that's coming from the upper front of the engine/head. It almost sounds kind of like a "diesel" engine noise. It's coming from somewhere around the timing belt housing/water pump. Do any of you have an idea of what it could be?
    Thanks

If it sounds sort of like metal on metal...then it could be the water pump. I guess you could say the noise sounds sort of like diesel engine. If you have the records on the car, check to see when the water pump was last done.

The water pump and seal where replaced at 82,204 by Road Show BMW, with a rebuilt water pump that costs $67.95. Now my car has 106,xxx miles. I guess I will have to looking to it, because it sounds like a likely possibility.
      Thanks

Is it a knocking type noise? If so, you could be hearing the begining of rod knock.

Is your car auto or manual?

Brand new water pumps are like $50. You paid that much extra for a rebuilt? right....

My car makes the same sound. I was actually thinking today how much it sounded like a diesel. I am hoping it is the injectors.

Actually I didn't pay for it, a person that owned the car before me did. She spent about $500 dollars every month on the car by taking it to the dealership. The only thing that has not been replaced on it is the body
I'm going to recheck the valve clearence again, and then I will take a look at the water pump (is it under the timing cover?)
                  Thanks

On my car the injectors go tick, tick, tick, tick , the valves go cla, cla, cal, cla , and the noise that i'm trying to figure out now goes krr, krr, krr, krr. I hope that helps ;)
