When installing the mirror precompress the springs with a pair of vice grips. Then slide a couple zip ties to hold the pins partially compressed. Then after installing it slide them back out.

Check control, something the 318is is lacking...
I think that there is a different color wire. Search google for Franz 318is, his site had the different wire color for the SRS panel.
you can run a power wire down the a-pillar to the factory plug (which does exist in the 318) however, in mine, I had converted to an electric sunroof also so I tapped into that power (ign). Try to source the harness for the maplight mirror from a junkyard car, or, god forbid, the dealer. If you feel so electrically inclined, or you want the maplights to work with the headlights off, it's a piece of cake to wire them however you want. Be careful as each bulb is ~$15 and you don't want them left on.
For those with maplight mirrors, you can upgrade to a 5w higher bulb from I think an e23
