Qs about intake boot and fan clutch...

Well I got two Ebay screwups in one week! I bought a new intake boot(for my 90 325i) and at first glance it looks right, but there is an extra outlet, what engine is this for? Any way to just plug it(without goop). Also bought a used fan and clutch, and it fails the newspaper test. Temp gauge still goes over half way.
So, can you buy the clutch and fan seperate and if so, how do you put them together?
The one I have came together and I dont see how you could seperate them, but when I see the clutch for sale it is alone. Also, can replacing the fan/clutch be done without removing the radiator and the water pump bolts?
Lastly, the reason why my clutch probably wore out in the first place is because the fan runs constantly, how do I fix this? I replaced the thermo-time switch(up top right?) awhile ago and that didnt work.

    thanks alot
    Nick
Thought I could move on to brakes, but guess not.

That extra plug on boot is for 87iS, I know for sure which can be blocked for now with big bolt and clamp, heh.

There is big nut on the fan that you have to remove, which isn't easy, you'll need 1 1/4 long wrench, and definately need to remove radiator for the better access, I always did when I replaced my water pump, and another time when I put eletric fan, I don't think it can be done without removing radiator, but I could be wrong on that one.

For the fan clutch, you can get used fan clutch and put on your blades, it's held by 4 allen type bolts on the blade.

    Have you replaced your thermostat?

Yea I just the bad one on yesterday, refilled the coolant and then checked to find out the clutch is bad, so if I have to remove the rad. its some more wasted coolant. The biggest pain was removing the water pump bolts and Im not sure if I had to do that.
To swap the fan onto the new clutch, are the four bolts on the metal part?

      thanks

FYI, you can remove the fan without pulling the radiator, but you have to do it from underneath the car.

I was thinking thermostat as well. Also, have you tried bleeding the coolant system?

Does the temp needle climb past middle even at highway speeds?
It could be air pockets in the coolant, but I'd try a new thermostat first if the coolant level seems ok.

Doesn't the fan clutch need to stay in an upright position or it will go bad? This brings up the question, how do you ship one?

I have heard the same thing. There is some kind of good/lubricant in the bearing and if it lays horizontally, it will seep out.

                Hmm.

The needle goes past halfway when sitting.

Also, the manual says if you are going to store it with radiator side facing down.
Do you think this could have caused it to go bad when being shipped? Seems like the same would happen if I bought one new as well.

These are items that you should buy new, not used.

   Maybe I should ebay some used (warped) brake rotors.
