      Which one? M10 or M42 318i and e21 or e30 323?

BTW madhatter, your sig is badass.

thanks, thats my john player special , ive got some website updates to do this weekend, head work is done, manifolds are here. Did you have a look at the website? :)

Even if it was an M42 it would still produce the same sort of power as the 323i motor, so i cant really see the point personally. If the 323i motor has blown up, you can pick up an E30 323i motor from wreckers for about $600, so i would probably just replace the motor.

cheers, for the response. im interested in this swap as my e30 323i is currently running a 320i engine due to the old one dying (this is how i bought the car). But now the engine in it is very smoky and i just bought a 'spare parts' car which is an e30 318i, and im sure the performance wouldnt be too much less? failing this would a complete e28 supply everything i need for an m30 swap? cheers, chris

Well, I'm assuming that you live in europe, so the motor in your 318i is actually an M40. These motors really are dogs-very underpowered and less than willing to rev, even more so than the M20B20 because the six has more torque. You would lose performance unless your current motor is very, very down on power. Also, for the difficulty of the swap, you might as well go M30 or at least M20B25.

I don't know a whole lot about the M30 swaps, but you will need custom engine mounts and exhast. The e34 M30 cars' motors plug right into the C101 engine harness port in an e30, so that is easy enough, but I'm not sure about the E28 motors.

Madhatter, I did read the site, and it looks very, very cool. I had no idea JPS E21s were ever produced. I doesn't hurt either that one of my dream cars would be a euro 323i in black, sport package, and gold BBS RAs ;)
