    Pirate Bearing Question

    I mean pilot bearing, just being funny. OK, I guess that there are sealed pilot bearings available, as well as unsealed pilot bearings. I ordered a sealed one from the parts counter, including a thin cover plate, felt ring, and a cap. I am thinking that I only need to install the bearing, and leave the cap, felt ring, and plate out of the end of the crank. That stuff is probably only used if I run the unsealed pilot bearing, correct?

    Also, how deep does the bearing need to be tapped into the end of the crank, until it bottoms out?

    Yes on both counts. If you use a sealed bearing, you don't need the cover plate, felt ring, and cap. The pilot bearing will bottom out inside the crank.
