    Cracked block and sealent..

Hey guy's I may be picking up a 318is for a steal. My dad is afraid that it may have a cracked block, and it has been sealed up. Is there anyway you can tell? The only reason he thinks this, is because I'm getting it for cheap. The body is perfect, and just has one tear in the drivers seat. I haven't test drove the car yet, but I plan on it. The car is about an hour and thirty minutes away.

The block probably isn't cracked. That's possible, but extremely rare. A damaged head or head gasket might be a possibility and someone could have used sealant to hide that. Without a history or teardown I don't know that it is possible to tell if that's happened.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

How cheap is cheap... 318is definitely don't go for much money...
