    Seat repair question.

I recently bought an 89 325i. The drivers seat is on overall good shape externally, however I am having some trouble with the mechanisms. I have read all the threads I can find on seat repair, and have visited the links. I have also just plain taken apart the seat to try to figure out the issue on my own, all to no avail at this point.

    The problem:

The seat has dead gas shocks, as usual. When I first got the car the right side recline adjustment was stuck and the mechanism would not lock, giving the seat a GREAT gangster lean. This was fixed with some grease and actuation. At this point the reclining feature works fine for the most part. The brackets that bolt the back to the bottom are intact.

The problem occurs when you try to use the vertical adjustment. You push the adjuster down and the mechanism unlocks and you can adjust the seat up and down. However whenever any weight is applied, the seat collapses back down and the back "reclines". That is in quotes as the back isnt moving but the entire mechanism is rotating on the seat. The seat back will stay locked and fine as long as the seat is adjusted to its lowest position. The problem with this is I am short, and my wife who also drives the car from time to time is also short.

It also seams that the rear of the seat is sitting to low, and this is causing the forward and backward actuation to bind, to adjust the seat you must be out of it and lift the rear and it move back and forth just fine.

The only thing I could think of is possibly the spring washers that are installed on the bent hieght adjustment bar under the seat are worn and not providing enough tension.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I am looking for a set of sport seats or something to replace the stock lux seats with but I haven't found any in nearly the cosmetic shape mine are in, that are priced in my budget.
