    Knocking Noise from the rear

I have a strange knocking noise coming from the rear of my car...

It sounds like its coming from the left rear wheel... I get the sound on pull off and as i accelerate the noise does the same...

What is strange is that its there sometimes and other times its not...

I checked my disks and the left rear one seems to have a small crack on it!!

Im going to replace all the disks soon but could this be the cause or could it be CV joints?

Sounds like a wheel bearing. But once it starts, it doesn't "come and go" Could be a cv possibly, or a shock mount.

If the noise is worse in the lowest gears and when using a generous amount of throttle, the rubber mount of the CSB may be the cause. If the CSB mount has failed, the cause (in almost all cases) will be binding u-joints in the drive shaft requiring a replacement of both parts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          Thanks for the response guys...

I will be doing the disks as well as the sideshafts so i will see if that improves it...

            Guys

I fitted new disks all round and this seemed to solve the problem. The one disk was cracked in three places! This was from the rear left where the noise was coming from.

I will wait and see if the noise comes up again but i hope that the disk was the only problem.

Just a little update. Noise came back.

Decided to do a 5 speed swap as my car was auto and it turned out to be binding u-joints on the driveshaft, and the csb was messed up.

Had the driveshaft rebuilt and all is well.

man my csb was trashed so bad. the metal hoop around the rubber mount was cracked in half it wasn't just thumping anymore it actually squeaked where the metal was cracked. then of course after i replaced it and the guibo and still had a minor vib. i read the threads about seized u-joints sweet ima live with it i think

The cost wasnt really that bad to rebuild the driveshaft. Got a used one from the junk yard for about $50. Took that to a driveshaft specialist and that came to about $220. So all in all about $270 for a rebuilt driveshaft.
