There is nothing loose in the engine compartment, and there is nothing in the trunk... still have the clunk/rattle.

When I really get the front right strut bouncing (blown), I hear a knock upon compression. It *might* be that... whatever the sound is. But I kind of doubt it because it's hard to conceive the wheels bouncing that far that fast to create a sort of rattle.

woah.. if the front strut is making a knock when you push the fender down yourself, then check the big nut. I bet its not as tight as it could be.

It's the bolt on the top of the strut... I'm going to tighten it tomorrow.

Yes, please let us know. I've had the same noise coming from the rear end and can't seem to isolate it despite spending a fortune on new bushings and springs. Shock mounts are usually the culprit, but I've had mine reinstalled and checked and it's not that. Maybe the upper mount? Some guy in a different forum said he installed an extra rubber washer in the upper mount to correct the play and it worked.

                  shock collar

I had the same problem for a couple days before I figured out that it was the collar on the shock. It was a bitch to find, but at least easy to tighten.

I was going to say that bolt on the top of the front struts or the bolt on the bottom of the rear shocks.

I had EXACTLY what you're describing, but it was coming from the passenger side rear. Turns out I didn't tighten the bolt all the way...oops. I had loosened the rear shock and removed the spring to give me some extra room when getting the rear swaybar in, which by the way was a pain in the ass. I hate dropping the diff.

What sway were you putting in ? I got my e30 m3 rear sway in without dropping the springs even though I could have done so easily.

IE 22mm Rear. There was simply no way to get that thing in without dropping the rear diff. I didn't need to move the spring, but it literally takes me 15 seconds to loosen the shock and just pull the spring out with my hand. It just made going in really quick. I was just a bit lazy and taking the spring out was faster.

But yea, the IE sways are monstrous too, but damn, they're unbelievable, especially with all the reinforcements and their hardware is just awesome.

M3 rear sway is good enough for my setup for now.
Sucks you had to drop the diff though...did u do any other stuff to the diff while you had it out?

Sorry for the O/T, I was just doing my front and rear BBK and IE sways, but nah, nothing new for the diff. It's a 3.25LSD with an M-Coupe finned cover. That will be just dandy for the OBD I U.S. S50b3.2 (hopefully with a 6 speed tranny). People often ask if I'm going with a 6 speed, why not find a 3.46 or use a 3.73? The E36 Euro M3 had a 3.25 with its 6 speed, so it should be an identical setup with my oversized tires as well (minus the european engine). However the US 3.2 with OBD I is supposed to yield ~286 crank hp.

Anyway, sorry for the thread jack. You fix that rattle yet?
