If I am driving along, all gears are smooth as silk but when I am coming to a stop, I have to completely stop then push in the clutch and then I can put the car back into first gear. Anyone know why this would be? I have already checked the clutch stop position and that is not the problem.
Does anyone know why I cant go into first gear?

Depends but I can't diagnois a car without looking at it. It's best if someone actual looks at it prior to just arbitralar swaping parts.Comment

I also have someone of the same situation, except it isn't so bad as me not being able to get into first, it just feels like i have to push very hard and somethings holding constant resistance against me shifting from N to 1. If you find out what it is, please update us.'91 E30 M42 DIAMANTSCHWARZ

Our Jeep wouldn't let you go into reverse unless you double clutched it. It was a 99, and it was always like that.
Does double clutching help? The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.Comment

No, I have tried many things and it just will not go back into first until I come to a complete stop, then pump the clutch when stopped.. I am going to replace the tranny fluid with some redline D4 synthetic and see what that does, but I expect I will need to open it up.Comment

The new fluid may very well solve the problem. If not, I have a used tranny sitting in the garage (Escondido) if you should happen to need one.Don't forget the good things Hitler did.Comment
