    burning smell

So I just got a 1990 325i last week, and I am still new at driving stick....this is only the second manual I have driven. Anyways, this morning I was rolling up to a stoplight that had just turned green, so i left the car in third as I was still moving fairly quick. then someone decided to quick cut through the lane in front of me to turn right, so I had to slow up real quick. I was a bit startled, and forgot I was in third gear. So I proceeded to accelerate from a very slow roll in 3rd gear. Once I realized it I shifted back into second, but not before I started getting a burnt rubber smell in through the open windows. Now when I drive I notice this smell when I am shifting. I don't know much at all about cars, and ideas of what my problem could be? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    Clutch slipping?

Usually, when I take mine to 7k, it'll smell like burning. Not worried though, it's just rare that it gets that high, and this car wasn't driven a lot before me.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

so as long as the car seems to be driving fine then I don't necessarily need to worry too much?
