i transmission on e engine?

Can a 5 speed transmission from an 88 325i be hooked to an 86 325e? I remember that there is a certain way that will not work, I just can't remember which way it is. I tried searching already...

The i tranny doesnt have the mounting provisions for the 2 sensors on the flywheel that the eta engine needs to start/run.

yep what jordan said, you can however use an eta transmission on an i motor
