    Replacing Camshaft

Our E34 M20 needs a new camshaft. It's worn. Not really worn, but worn. Everything else looks good.

What parts would be smart to replace while doing this? What seals and stuff will I need to order?

    Thanks!

    Full rebuild of the head.

12 new rockers, 12 new valve stem seals, 2 newrocker shafts3 angle valve grind, new cam seal, new "doghouse" seals, resurfaced head.

That is the minimum amount of work I would do if the head is going to be pulled.

Oh, and it leaks oil, from the bottom. Oil Pan Gasket? What other gaskets should be replaced that aren't that difficult?

Damn, the car has 70,000 miles. I guess I'd look into that, all the other parts look good though. I'll check the funds.

If the cam is worn enough to need replacing I would be VERY worried about the rest of the engines internals.....

How did you determine that this cam was wearing prematurely? Did you have a way of measuring the lift and duration of the lobes? Or are you just taking a wag at it?

BMW cams typically last a lot longer than 70k miles, more like 200-250k. I would guess that either your M20 has an oil starvation problem in the head or it has a lot more than 70k on it.
