    Fuel transfer issues. Please help

    Hi,

I asked this a while back, but does anyone know how the fuel equalizes between the 2 sides in a saddle gas tank for a 89 325i?
I am still having problems of only getting gas from the pasenger side (pump). The gauge is reading fine (reads that side), but when it shows empty, there is almost full tank on the driver side hatch (opened to check). I know this is the model without the transfer pump. I don't know how it can send fuel over the hump without a pump. I have looked for diagrams and will call the stealership to see if they can help.

It's runnning fine, but its a little frustrating to only have 7 gal range :)

    Thanks!

There is a tube that goes from one side to the other. You might get to have some fun with this one!

What side of the tank is the tube? Is it on top or the side? How does it transfer? Does it work on pressure or a siphon effect? The damnthing must have clogged somehow. I did not see anything in the Hayes manual about the tank. Any diagrams out there?

      thanks,

This seemed to happen right after the S52 swap. Would the return pressure effect the fuel transfer? I was looking at diagrams on realoem and it looks like the return line comes in the drivers side and would that pressure cause the fuel to transfer to the pump side? This is just a theory. I will probably drop the tank this weekend and see. Just wanted to get some ideas before then.

        Thanks,

Also, those who have done the 24v swap, where does the return fuel line hook up at the engine(S52)? I had a shop do the swap in Austin, and being in Dallas, do not have quick access there.

all same hook ups in the back, unless the shop is retarded. think of it like this; you have 2 glasses of water and there is a straw connecting them at the bottoms. They will always have the same level even if you only take from one. jack it up and take a look. And yes, it is clogged. You may try pulling the sender and having a look with a flashlight.
