    Question about some fuel lines.

Yea. So the other day, I'm looking under the hood of our red 87 325 - and I notice that the fuel lines leading to the cold start valve were dripping. Needless to say, I instantly shut the car off, considering these were leaking directly on to the valve cover. (thankfully the car had just been started, as we were finding the source of all the exhaust noice due to it seperating right before the cat)

If you follow the fuel line going from the cold start valve back (towards the driver's comparment) there's a little T, that splits the line in 3.

Well, it was leaking right out of that.

Now, I already have that T piece ordered, and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. (part number thanks to the ETK) But, I also had them run the part numbers for the three fuel lines that met up at that T, and each of them were OVER $20-30 a piece.

I understand these lines are under pressure. But, I was wondering if they had to be bought thru the dealer, or if could I just buy some high pressure hosing from somewhere like Home Depot and run it myself. The bends are not all that drastic.

I wanted to replace the lines just to be safe, I don't wanna take chances with leaking fuel. And, the lines have quite a few cracks on them.

    Thanks.

And, NO, I will NOT be driving the car until this is fixed. Just for those that were wondering. ;)

Just buy a regular T at an autoparts store, and some fuel line

I had the same issue with my beater, did it for 3 bucks

Make sure to get the FUEL T-connector, not a Vaccum T-connector ;)

        Somewhere like schucks then?

I'll pick up some fuel line. My T thing is on it's way, and will be at the parts place tomorrow. It's only about 90 cents anyway.

Thanks a lot! I'll let you know if I have any more questions.

Make sure to get high-pressure fuel inection fuel hose, 8mm or 5/16. Should only be a couple of dollars per foot.

Yep, I got 7 feet, extra just in case, for $ .10 an inch (she told me a FOOT when I asked her what the price was - so she gave me a foot free).

Got everything changed out, went smoothly. Changed out the fuel filter, rubber lines coming from the solid line, to filter, then all lines after the filter. Runs great, no more leaks, and the car no longer has the little problem when accelerating, when the power seems to lag for a split second.

I'm VERY pleased. Worked perfect. Thanks a lot guys. ;)

              Sean,

I don't want to cause you any worry, but, it's VERY IMPORTANT that you make sure you used high pressure fuel line- designed for Fuel injection, NOT just the standard fuel line that's available most places. The standard fuel line will work, for a short time, but then it WILL split open and then you have a big problem. Shop around a bit, expect to pay $2-3 per foot for the correct FI line (either 8mm or 5/16" ID -inside diameter- will work). PLEASE check this ASAP or you risk damaging your car, or those riding in it.

              Bret.

OK, I'll check on that tomorrow.

If it isn't how long is this short time? Like, 2 months? Just wondering for purposes of lack of time. I'd just have to keep a close eye on it.

I'll run to schucks tomorrow, and ask what kind of line it was.

Thanks for pointing that out, I appreciate it.

                      fuel line

just wondering how much psi your fuel line should be rated? i have some at 300 psi, is this alright?

300 psi is more than enough. The system only runs 30-40psi.
The correct hose will say "fuel injection" printed every foot or so on the hose itself.
