Checking for / installing performance chip...

Ok, I was trying to follow this guide: http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacg...00076&Section=

But, I seem to have gotten a little confused.

I'm trying to find this box in my 87 325, so I can open it up and check to see if there is already a chip (I hope there isn't ;)) The guide said that mine would be above the glove box. Well, I took out the box there, but it doesn't look like the one in the picture - It does, however, have a motronic sticker on it as well as a Bosch sticker on it. With 078 in a little oval shape.

Is this the right box? I began opening it, and decided to ask before I went any further. There's another box under my driver's side dash, but that seems a bit too small.

Or, is this box somewhere else?

I know someone can answer this easily. :)

    Thanks!

PS: A search using 0 261 200 027 shows rebuilt ECUs. But, I'd still like a reply from someone so I know for sure.

yeah, the rectangular aluminum box above the glovebox is the one. It's about 8in. square. Take it out to access the top lid, remove it, and have fun.
That chip is going to be a hell of a lot better than stock...

Is the top the part with the brackets then? (the part that faced upwards when in the car)

And, yes, that's why I think there isn't a chip in there, but my dad says otherwise. I will prove it to him. :)

      Thanks for the reply!

no the top was on top when the ecu was in the car.
The "top" itself is a sheet of metal with 4 screw holes through it. I think it's made of thin steel, and painted silver. The box itself is unfinished (prob'ly slightly oxidized) aluminum. The wiring harness plugs into the side of the box...

Got the two PCB's apart - good news, and news I knew was true, no chip!

I will, afterall, be buying one tonight. Can't wait to get it installed! :D

          Thanks for the help :)
