Allright, I've got a few issues with my car right now. It's an '87 eta, manual. Any advice on any of these would be appreciated.
1) When I start it, it revs up to 1500, and then immediately drops to about 500, almost stalling out. It then revs up and down a bit, stabilizing at a normal idle. The ICV is working properly to my knowledge, is there anything else I can do to adjust this behavior? Not sure if revving too low can actually damage the engine, but it does make a fearsome shaking and bad noises when it goes down to 500. Bad noises are never good.
2) Buzzing/ringing noise at 1550 RPM. Happens when revving UP past it in every gear and neutral. More expressed in gear during acceleration than in neutral, noise persists if I stay at that RPM with load on the engine (not coasting). In driver seat, noise comes from the direction of the front right wheel. In passenger seat, noise comes from directly forward, a bit to the left. Noise does not change when I push in the clutch. Is this just a loose panel somewhere that resonates at that specific RPM, or is there a chance something in the transmission is on the way out? Anyone ever experienced something like this?
3) Brake light and rear license plate light check panel idiot lights on. I've cleaned the plugs in the taillights as well as the bulb bases. All the bulbs are intact. Does anyone know the resistance ratings the check panel expects from the bulb circuit? Any other junctions I should check?
4) Grinding/pounding noise when turning at low speed, sounds like large rocks falling onto ground, but not overly loud. It may be there at high speed, but it's only apparent at fairly sharp turns at low speed, so it pretty much has to be the diff, right? It's a 2.93 LSD, could it have seized up?
That's all I can think of now. Car's getting a valve adjustment tonight, so hopefully it will quiet down and smooth out.
