Problem: Thought I fixed the exhaust hole...but didn't.

And, here's the thing. I have an IS exhaust laying here off my parts car. I WAS going to use the muffler on my car, since it wasn't all rusted. But, here's my problem.

The other night, I turned the car on after dancing in a cafe for a few hours, and BOOM, the car was all of a sudden UNBEARBLY loud. I mean, like, running off headers loud. I THOUGHT the problem was how loose the pipe was right at the bottom of the downpipes. But, I got some Muffler Bandage stuff (does that work well???) And this morning, it's still making just as much noise as it was yesterday.

Here's my question. I know if I were to buy like 4 more bandage things, and wrap up all the spots that look like that'll be it wouldn't be too hard. But, I'm still worried that won't fix it.

So, I'm thinking of swapping in the IS exhaust, from the headers down. BUT, I have noticed right off the batt that the O2 sensor is in a different place. How hard is it to migrate that over to the downpipes?

And, does it have a different connector than the 88+ 02 sensor?

Also - does anyone has any idea WHERE the noise would be coming from. The odd thing is that the bracket right down on the middle (metal piece that you would screw thru) to hold the exhaust up there, has broken, and gone into the exhaust. My question is, is that a big reason? Cause the bracket doesn't go in any further, is like the exhaust has an inner exhaust or somehting.

Other than that though, I have no clue where the noise is coming from. I wrapped a towel around a cold exhaust and started the car, ran for maybe a minute. Does that work for maybe muffling the noise to help pinpoint the reason for the noise?

Sorry, so many questions, but I got a busy day when I get home from work today. wooo.

You're talking the bandage stuff, right?

You know if the towl idea would work to identify the culprit? If not, wht does work?

      THanks!

By the way guys, I'm thinkin I will put on the I exhaust. Might as well, as it would take less time and money than it would to bandage up a bunch of places on the exhaust.

So, I need to know - how do I move the location of this 02 sensor????

      THANKS

Don't use whatever bandage stuff you're talking about. Throw the i exhaust on. As far as the 02 sensor, I am assuming if nothing else you could splice in some wire to extend it but I will let the guys who have swapped their exhaust, maybe Ryan, answer that one for sure.

That's what I'm really leaning towards. I work from noon-5, and I get to do the fuel lines and exhaust when I get home. I could get the exhaust off and the I on in less than an hour, so that's what I'll do.

The connectors for the 02 senors are indeed different. Are they swappable?

Details needed for that 02 sensor!! ;)

          Thanks a lot!

Wow...glad I figured it out on my own.

Have a smalllll problem now - there's seems to be smoke coming our from around my o2 sensor?

I'm not sure why it is? I'm afraid that MAYBE the PB Blaster found it's way down into the exhaust?

Pointers here...I need them ASAP here....

              edit:

I ran teh car for a while, and it continues to smoke. I'm really baffled. My dad pointed out that IF the o2 sensor was bad, I would get a check engine light. So, it must be still good. Should I just run it for a while, and see if it dies off?? I know it's coming from around the o2 sensor though, no where elkse

              PLEASE let me know here!!!

              edit2:

Ok, I'll be fine. If it is smoking, I'm almost 99% sure that it's something cooking inside the exhaust. It had been sitting on the side of our garage for about more than 2 months, and we didn't clean it out or anything. It's probably some spider?

Other than that, everything went perfect. I'm out.
