m50 problems

We are woking on a 1995 325is and they put some m3 cams in the motor. Then they brought it to us and are complaining of a knock coming from the vanos. Have any of u guys heard of this with a m50 yet. i think it might be the cam gear. but if any of u had this do it to u yet. if u have tell how we should go about fixing it.

VANOS unit may just be coincidentally going.

The vanos unit that adjusts the cam gear is most likely shot if it sounds like a rattling sound from the front on the motor. Big bucks to fix.

Or you could just rob one off a junkyard car if you can get lucky.

Yes, this is a super common problem, and is worse with larger cams. VANOS is dead, only option is to change the entire unit. They are about $350 if I remember correctly.

Ya they have already put a vanos unit on and it strated it agian with one of the new vanos unit. so we are goin to get another vanos unit tomarrow and try it.This will be the 2nd vanos unit the car has gone through. If u think of any thing else tell me so i can get this fixed. Thanks a lot guys we will try that.

I have an extra single vanos unit sitting at my apartment I could sell you cheap, pretty sure it's from an M50/M52. Although I'm going out of town today and won't be back until Sunday to check for sure what car it's from, but from what I remember it looks just like the one on my S50.
