so, how would i go about repairing this electrical mess?

i purchased this car like this. had i known more about wiring and e30's in general i probably would have never bought it. but alas, im stuck with it for now.

anyway, the car is a super eta budget stroker. 88 325e bottom end, i head, running on ms. i bought it with the engine pre built, in the car, and running on the stock ecu and put the ms in myself. it ran awesome up until a few days ago.

pics of the mess in question-

yes, that is the main relay wiring. yes, that is a random wire plugged into something that looks like it shouldnt be. and yes, that is also an extremely haggered, half ass'd harness and ground

the car wont run. it will crank, its getting fuel and spark, but it wont run. its been like this for a few days now.

even if this haggered wiring isnt what caused the problem originally, i still want to get this taken care of. a few questions-

    1. a friend wrecked his 85 325e a few weeks ago. the wiring in the car is in good shape. is the main relay wiring the same for i's and e's?

    2. wtf is that single wire going to? any ideas as to what its used for?

    3. do you think that this is the reason my car wont run? if not, then what?

    thanks

I wish I could help you with that. I think you need an I wiring harness for your "budget stroker" and I would guess that was the PO's alernative to getting an I harness, just a guess though. GL

thats the weird thing, the car was originally an i. its a 90 325is. so this wiring mess was pretty much just really unnecessary
