Help! I need to remove the Door Lock Cylinder

Can somebody point me to the right direction on how to remove the door lock cylinder? My Bentley is too helpful. It says, remove the slider but I am not able to....appreciate any help.

Yo, Brother...easy stuff if you have the right tools.

I use a pair of very long needle nose pliers to yank the retainer clip, then juggle the damn lock out of the hole.

Hang in there, the first one is a bitch.

Yeah, but count on removing the rear window track too. Possibly even the door latch...things can get ugly in there quick.

Can anyone show me a picture of a driver-side lock cylinder assembly.

I have a rebuild kit, and the last piece could go on the shaft in one of two directions (180 degree rotation possible) and I cannot tell which is correct.
So, I really need to see an assembled cylinder, shot from the end opposite where the key enters.

If you can get a light in there, you'll see it.
all you have to do is grad the lifted portion of that slider shim and pull it off...if i remember correctly it slides from toward the leading edge if the door.

Use a piece of masking tape to keep the lock cylinder in place so it does not fall down. If it does you'll probably brwak that rosette (black trim on the periphery) and have to get another one...about $6 at the dealer for the pair I think.

Also, if you do both sides, those sliding shim clips are left/right proprietary.

If you have the central locking system, you have to be careful of the switch that activates the other locks. I used a long pry bar to push the retainer clip off and then I let it fall inside of the door. When I reinstalled it, I actually took the latch out so I could see what I was doing.

It's pretty easy, but it's just an hard spot inside the door to work with. All you have to do is pull the "U" shaped metal clip that holds the cylinder against the door skin. You don't need to remove the door lock mechanism itself though.

Here is a picture of the early lock cylinders, the ones from the late models are a little bit longer (1/4" or so).

since I have the door lock cylinder out of the car, im thinking of repairing it...any idea how hard is it to repair the cylinder? This is the repair kit I am thinking of buying, Im kind of hesitant I might just brake it by not being able to re-assemble it.

Unless you have time to experiment with it and learn through trial and error (and even the possibility of having to buy another kit after making all of the mistakes) I'd say take it to a locksmith and be done with it.
