    Shift knob attachment?

I'm wondering how the shift knob attaches on most e30's? I'm about to start turning some shift knobs on the lathe (wood) and would like to plan things out a little bit more before I start.

    Thanks for any help!

Pull it off and see. It doesn't have threads like most knobs. I just slides on and then a notch in the top holds it on.

Thanks, I took a look at some OEM parts and figured it out.

Your best bet is to attach a metal collar with set screws on the bottom. Then the set screws will tighten down against the shift lever to hold it in place. This is how many aftermarket knobs are done.

with the set screws, in my experience they loosen up over time, so what ive done is mark the spot where the screws will sit on the shift lever and drill small holes, not all the way through but just enough so the set screw will sit in the indentation and that has helped for me with the knob not loosening up and sliding around. or you could just put thread locker on the threads, that might help

I'd rather not ruin a nicely turned shifter with screws. Is it possible to use some sort of rubber fitting inside of the shift knob to keep it in place more securely?

I'm sure if it became absolutely necessary I could somehow attach a threaded piece to the shift rod?

I hate those knobs with the tension screws. I wish our knobs were threaded, its so much better in my opinion.
