    which wheel bearing?

    I have a front wheel bearing going out and have raised the car to try and rock the wheels but both are tight. the whirring noise goes away on right turns and gets worse on left hand turns. Any ideas on which bearing it is?
    drivers side or passengers?

    Replace them both, then you can't miss.

    If one is shot, you can be assured the other is right behind it.

      Should be left because more stress/friction=more noise

        no, left turn = stress on right-side bearing

          What do they sound like when you spin them? Pitted bearings will cause a grinding noise, but not necessarily any play in the wheel.

            If you only have cash to do one, it is the right side bearing. almost guaranteed the other will go within 10,000 miles, mine was after 4,000.

            The check:
            If its louder when you brake its in the front, accelerate = rear
            If its louder in right hand turns its the left side, left turns = right side

            think about where the weight transfers, but if you can afford, don't even think about replacing just one.

              thanks guys,

              Unfortunatly I'm in residential real estate so I can only afford to replace one at a time.
              I thought that for sure it was a front wheel bearing, so I ordered one, but it makes sense that the whirring noise gets worse on acceleration and not braking. At least the rears are lwss than the front.
