    Well....

I tried to do a plastic bumper conversion today and it didnt go well.

I learned I need to take both the top and lower portion of the plastic bumpers over to the Vert from the donor car not just the bumper itself.

Then onto the rear... supposedly its a straight swap. It didnt work that way at all and Im a little confused as to why. I have an 89 vert with a 9/88 build date.

Here are the pics...the donor car had some weird plastic clips for the bumper to slide into. My vert did not at all have these.

    my Vert

Here is me mistakenly trying to make the front bumper of the donor car work on the Vert without switching over the bottom half... not the plastic clips now cut in half

now I need to buy the plastic parts.

and I ended up putting my diving boards back on to get home after 7 hours of work.

    it sucked and Im pissed....

As I understand it with the verts you will need to drill. Either to install the plastic clips or to use a long sheet metal screw which you screw through the inner fiberglass bumper into the trunk space (I imagine a carriage bolt or something would work too)and then install the impact strips over. This is what I hear a lot of folks do with the verts.

well the thing is the on the rear the metal underneath on the donor car seams to slope in more allowing space for that plastic clip piece.

Where as on the vert it is a lot more shallow or so it seems.

Ive never done this before and the guy that was helping me hadn't either so any assistance is appreciated and if anyone in the Virginia area would like to help out they would be compensated for their time and fuel.

all I can say is that my '88s plastics bolted right up, but it was a coupe...

sorry I know that doesn't help

                  Dude thank you so much!

You dont use the plastic sliders and have to get creative on the sides.

I will read up on this some more in that thread.
