Front wheel bearing -- still good/

Let's say you are an idiot and put the front wheel bearing on and then realize that you forgot the brake dust shield. So, you pull the bearing off and the inner race stays on the axle shaft. Is that bearing now toast, or is it still useable?

Wow that is a really really good queston :D

I will venture to say "no", but maybe someone optimistic might want to use said wheel bearing...

I was very torn about using it. I ended up buying a new one. But I now have this separated bearing with no use for it. I am thinking of selling it, but will not if I think it is a safety issue.

My thought when I almost used it was this: the beaing is held together by pressure between the axle nut on the outer race and the shoulder of the axle on the inner race. There should be no way that this is coming apart.

But, this E30 is the first car I ever worked on myself. I had/have no deep experience to call on. So, I just bought a new bearing.
