    where is this connector's home?

Hey all, first off, I'm a newbie E30 owner, been lurking for about a month, just picked up an 88IS last Friday. So, hello to everyone.

Second, I'm going through the car one system at a time, getting to know more about its design etc. First up for me was the electrical system. Long story short, I got some pics below of a connector that was not connected to anything below the knee bolster under the steering column area. I am not able to determine what circuit they are in. I'm pretty familiar with auto electrical systems in general, so if you know what it goes to, by all means explain fully. I have a Bentley manual, but figured I would post first here, since not ALL of the electrical systems have diagnostic procedures.

    Facts:

Central Door Locking system does not function, from any door/trunk. Drivers door lock is stiff, mechanically, barely locks all the way with the key, but does lock.
Passenger side mirror remote does not function.
Door ajar cabin lighting does not function when driver’s side door is open, functions perfectly when passenger door is open.
Gauge cluster, High-Light indicator is non functional.

Two pics below show a couple of things:

Large connector in question (black) has 5 wires, one of which seems to be a bare ground, that has snapped or been cut from the location shown in the second picture. Wires look shisty to begin with, but doesn’t scream “previous owner modified wiring.” The short harness extends from a main bulkhead harness. To me, it looks like it should be connected to a relay or some variety. Let me know what you think if you have any suggestions, thanks.

And judging from what greenlantern181 posted recently, and responses to it, you would think this was the flasher unit. but every light works great on my car.... ugh....

First off, go download your wiring diagram at www.wedophones.com.

Click manuals, the automotive, should make sense from there.
Second, i believe that to be the AUX fan AC relay, but not certain.

Door lock/central locking and domelight relays are under the left front speaker, under a plastic cover...kind of a hassle to get out, but that relay has nothing to do with the door locks or domelights.
