Has anyone ever had a starting issue when cold?

My 325e is being weird. It won't crank when it's cold. Nothing. I put in another battery, but same issue. It's not a new battery, but I figured it would work, as it started the car fine yesterday.

Car sat for 12hrs, in just below freezing temps, and it wouldn't crank this morning. Has anyone had this happen? Or do I have 2 bad batteries? I'm gonna attempt my e36's battery, but figured I'd ask youse guys, as this forum is quite reputable.

    Or something.... Iunno. HELP!!

Possibility of two bad batts is feasible. If the second battery started the car fine and then wouldn't the next day, I would check the alternator.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
    Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.

i thought alternator too.... here's another odd twist to the problem.

i put the old battery back in, the bmw one with the window (no green in it, just black) and it started the car fine, this morning, and it was colder last night. i drove for coffee, stalled it once, etc. drove home, parked. when i parked, the door lock only shut the one door.... no more power. went inside, little confused, came back out to get something from the rear seat, passenger side, shut the door, locked the front one, and i had power again.. i'm thinking loose connection this time, but.... wtf? this is supposed to be my winter car, and it's letting me down already!

Idle control valve?.........actually that wouldn't make it not crank.

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

i'm pretty newb to e30's. learning is fun, but not the hard way when i need the damn car.... haha. my girlfriend's sundance is a 'better car' she says. always starts, always runs.... my damn bimmer's let me down a lot!

update, the terminals had popped off, that's why the car was dead this time around. it's a shame my trunk doesn't open unless there's power. it seriously wont. i had to open and slam the back door, to get a connection to happen, to unlock the trunk. is there a way to jump the car under the hood? or, maybe even move the battery up to the front of the car?
