car just quit on the freeway

on the way to werk, my car just died out while i was going about 50 mph. no response from the accelerator. I pulled over puzzled and tried to crank it back up. will not fire up. I try to roll back and roll start it. still wont fire up. then decide to listen when i turn the key to the ON position. No sound. usually there will be some kind of hum . shouldnt there? indicating that that the fuel pump turned on? well, I had it towed to German Car Specialists just a mile away. How convenient. Im sure I can do the werk myself, but I just have no time to. Hopefull Its just the fuel pump relay. since I just spend a good sum of money on tires and misc. parts.
anyone else ever have this problem?

after you find out whats wrong reply here. Ive had problems with getting my car started quite a few times over the past couple weeks, then one day nothing. i turn the key on and receive no sounds as you notice with your car.

The first thing I would suspect would be the "main Relay", one of the 3 separate relays under the hood (on the drivers side inner fender- NOT in the fuse box). It's a pretty common failure- once the relay gets to be about 15-20 years old..... You can usually get them to work (or fail) by thumping lightly on the case of the relay while the car is running (or while trying to start the car- if it's dead).

Check it out and let us know.......

which relay is it exactly? Im going there in the morning to check my car before they werk on it. and I cannot find my book.
usually i can hear a click from where the relay location. but not when it died. Now Im thinking its just a relay. wish me luck.

Yeah let us know what you find Mine is doing that too. Can you jumpstart it? Once mine is up and running, it will go for around 2-3 miles and then die again.

Did you try the ignition switch? Just a suggestion.

COURTM3- i tried roll starting it. it wouldnt fire up.

as i stated earlier, the car just died out. no loud bang or overheating, smoke whatsoever. they tell me this morning that its not the fuel pump. that the timing belt went caput. they got the top end open and it seems the valves were damaged. The minimal repair would cost about 3 thousand, and that would be rebuilding the head and valves, along with changing a few other things that should be replaced.
sux. My tires just came this morning, just before i got the quote. I also have an IS spoiler and the Sparco bar on the way.
No way am i paying 3 grand to repair a car that isnt worth that much. I love the car, but its gonna put me in a hole. Im going to have it towed to my house. and see what i can do from there. remove the aftermarket parts and sell them. my brother already agreed to give me some money for the brand new tires. store the car in my back yard, remove some stuff, see if i can get a hook up on repairs.
I just got ahold of another car. Its been sitting in my garage for a few months. it was my cousins car. he moved and couldnt sell it. I may be buying from him. Ill keep you all posted.
sad day for me but Hey, atelast i broke the norm. come to think of it, I wish some would just crash into it. that way i can get some money from it from insurance
