Just picked up my first 318is 1991.....small power steering leak....is it common on this model?

2 of the 3 of mine had leaking steering racks.
The 1st one the guy run the shit out of it and I had to replace it...didn't know I could do it myself yet, so I had a brand new one installed.
The other is still leaking but I plan on upgrading to one of the newer racks.
So I would say yes its pretty common -
