    Need new battery or not?

This just started happening this week (for years it just started right up the first time). It's been hard to start/turn over in the morning. Then one day I drove it for about an hour and a half and then parked it for about 8-10 hours. The battery was dead, had to push start it. Drove it home (45 mins). sat overnight and started/but barely the next morning. Took a short trip to the supermarket and it started up fine to come back. Later yesterday, I drove it 45 minutes again (each way) and it started up fine for another short trip last night. This morning, it barely started again.

Other info, the battery is 7 or 8 years old. The negative terminal has corrosion on it.

Does the battery sound like it's still good/can it still hold a charge? Would cleaning the terminal help much? Should I just put a new battery in?

Of course this just happened after I took the car in for brake and wheel bearing work. They did a 24-point check and said the battery terminal needed cleaning. Since it worked fine for so many years I didn't have them do anything. Now the battery starts acting up...

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I would start by cleaning the terminal.

A 7-8 year old battery is an iffy proposition, even if perfectly cared for. You got your money out of that one and it is time for a new battery.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I say replace it for you peace of mind, average lifespan is about 7 years for a trunk-mounted battery. A good one can be had for about $100.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned around the terminal, but I didn't take the cable off and clean it because it is on pretty tight and needed to be done carefully for which I didn't have time today. Will cleaning the corrosion help the battery charge or keep it's charge?
