    Noobish question. smoke.

So I'm driving home from work tonight, and I'm given an excuse to floor it (boston drivers).

I'm at the top of 3rd gear and glance in my rearview mirror and notice a big puff of smoke behind me. It went away once I shifted up to 4th

Can't tell what color it was as it was 11 at night, saw it reflected in the light.

I tried to replicate it (probably not a smart thing to do), to no avail. Only happened that once.

My car does consume some oil, not excessively. It's been documented in this car for at least 10 years, with no issues.

It needs a valve adjustment, but not that badly.

I didn't feel any power loss or misfiring.

Anyone have any clue what it could be?

Do you drive like that often (like floor it and stuff)? If not, you may have just kick some crud loose......or it could be ???

Well, posterity, you will never know what it cost us to preserve your freedom. I only hope that you will make a good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

every now and then. It sees WOT every time I drive it, I'd say it sees 6k rpm every other time I drive it, not often redline though.

        adjust your vavles
any more in-depth explanation of exactly what is happening to cause this if it's a valve related issue? obviously I know I need to adjust the valves, it's on my to-do list for before winter sets in.
