~More headroom in softop? switch a 6cyl. for 4cyl?

So ive had to come to terms with the fact lately that after doing the E36 seat swap, i dont fit in my E30 anymore....back problems insued...etc etc.....heard there was more headroom in softops (when the tops up obviously) is this true? Definately not giving up on my car, but was also wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to do 2.5L swap for an M10 motor-i know, i know, who would want to but i have one rebulit and ready to go and am thinkin about a soft top-anythings appreciated-

Couldn't you just get some different seats? Recaro has a vast lineup of seats with back problem plagued people in mind.
