Lighter weight battery (not 11lbs Optima)

So I am building up my trackcar on a budget and also my battery is pretty much dead.

If money was no object, I would go spend ~160 for one of those red top optima batteries. I am looking for something mid 20lbs. I was thinking something like a miata or civic battery which weigh mid 20's and have a CCA rating of ~400-550. They also run for 70-90 bucks.

http://www.bgsoflex.com/cca.html says that I need a minimum rating of 204.

    Any suggestions/experiences?

try a honda battery... a 51-series. Get the cheap ones, they are lighter (less lead)

    Advance Auto's Autocraft Silver p# 51r-1 or 51r-2, about $80 after tax

Deka 18C(?) AGM battery. They are light, small, can't spill, and I got one for like $60 on eBay. Several e36 guys run them on thier track cars, some DD them as well, just not sub-friendly.

Before going to a lightweight battery for a track car, you should find out what the corner weights are. You may find that you want weight in the passenger rear corner, perhaps even over what a full sized battery would be.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

              Lighter is always faster.....

Adjust corner weights with coilover adjustments, not adding subtracting weight.

I use a $30 8lb motorcycle battery from walmart for track days. I have even left it in for as long as a few months and t started my car up just fine daily driving it.

I mount it behind the front passenger shock tower and have the positive cable going directly to the distribution block.

I also removed the cable that heads back to the trunk.
