    leaky fuel line. help!

yea so i noticed that the fuel line running from my tank to fuel filter is slightly leaky. when its cold everything is cool but 1nce it warms up i gots a definate drip. talked to an auto shop and they said the earliest they could get me in was monday. seeing that i neither want to pay them mass cash to fix it nor want to turn into a fireball between now and monday i am asking for the length/diamiter/etc. for this section of hose or a part no. would do just as well. also i might as well change out the fuel filter while i am down there so a part no. for that would be nice too. Finally i am fairly new to bemmers, having bought this one about 3-4 months ago, so a little bit of a walk thru/equipment nessicary would be much apreciated

    thanks in andvance

    p.s. im a horrible speller

Uhh Jordan, are you sure about that???

It might be slightly pre-bent, but I'm pretty sure 8mm ID (Inside Diameter) fuel injection hose will work fine. You could even use 5/16" FI hose in a pinch. Make sure to get the hose that is rated for the higher pressures found in fuel injection applications- the cheaper low pressure stuff might work for a short time, but it WILL split and create a serious problem...

Sorry. It looked like fuel FILLER, not filter.

Whatever standard line will work, buy the cheapest shit you can since you dont care about your car.

aren;t all the hoses near the fuel filter all bent from the dealer, with proper hose types/ diameters???

hmm i think you should go to the dealer, fuel lines is one thing i wouldn't go cheap on.

fuel line is all the same (as long as it is actually fuel line, with propersize).... get the proper fittings..... i think there are a lot of thngs i would not go cheap on.... but flexible fuel line from the dealer is just as good as the fuel line from schucks.

Yup, but this tool doesnt care. He is too cheap to pay a mechanic 1hr labor to swap out hoses, you think he is going to buy genuine parts?

thats what i thought, mine ruptered, i replaced it with a cheaply made line, ordered the part, and replaced it propely the day it came in.

if oem lasted 14 years, why wouldn't i wanna put oem lines back in?

                think about it ;)

                    not true.

Most of the generic fuel line you get at the chain auto parts stores, hardware stores, etc is low pressure fuel line, NOT designed to handle the pressures generated by an electric fuel pump - like the one in your E30.

Get some 8x13mm fuel line from the dealer, or other reputable online source- it'll cost ~$2-4 per FOOT depending on source, but it's worth it. You might also find some 5/16" "fuel injection" fuel line at the local parts store that work too.

If you find some fuel line for ~$1 per foot, it's likely the low pressure stuff, and I would not use it on an injected car.

                    Bret.
