    Engine Oil Light

So a couple of nights ago I noticed my Check Engine light would be on for a couple minutes after start up along with my engine oil light (check panel) which is always on. I checked the oil and it's fine. Someone told me I need to reset the oil service to fix this. How do I go about doing that? Also, the check engine light is also now always on, and I have to press check each start up to turn it off.

And does the check engine light come on automatically along with the engine oil light, or is something else causing it.

    Sorry. Total noob.

The check engine light is in the lower left hand corner of most E30s. You are referring to the check panel light, which is in the middle and blinks.

If your oil level warning lamp keeps coming on, but the oil is fine, you may need to check the wiring to your sensor or just buy a new sensor.

Oops yea its the check light in the middle of the cluster. So is it blinking because of the engine oil warning (check panel on top) or can it be a different problem?

Yep. It will always blink when those little red lights come on.

K, thanks for clearing that up. A friend of mine who's a mechanic told me it was probably because the oil service guage needed to be reset. But so you think it's a sensor?

Yeah, possibly. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

The engine oil light on the check panel will reset itself when the oil level comes back up, so if it doesn't it's most likely the sensor or the wiring.

Re-set the oil service about a month ago and the light went off. Also did an oil change a couple of weeks ago but now it just turned back on a couple of days ago, and I can't turn it off like I used to be able to. So I just need an oil level sensor?

not related to oil changes, intervals or condition

it's just a little float and a switch
