car wont start, or wont stay running long....

So, my 325e acted up tonight.

just filled tank with premium. thought i'd spoil it. haha. i drive about 5km, and as i'm coming into the parking lot of my office, the car shuts off, sorta, bucks a bit,and when i press the clutch in, it dies. won't start afterwards. or it wont stay running if it does. i needed to move it, so i started it in gear to roll it a little (i know, not good for it) and it kept running. drove it a bit, around the lot, revved and held it at 4000. let off. stayed running. thought it was odd, but went to park it.

i do my business, go out, and it wont stay running again. do the startin gear thing, and it fires up, but wants to die, so i floor it, and it stays running... it's idling now.

    wtf?

do pumps go like this? when my e36's went, it was dead. no questions, just dead. no start. no buzz. nada. or is this a fuel filter issue?

this car has always had an odd hiss/buzz by what i assume is the fuel filter... i understand there's a pump above it, along with one under the rear seat

    anyone?

oh...it shut off again. won't start... i'm assuming fuel pump.

    fuck.

how hard is it to replace the pumps, and filter? and is it pricey?

The best thing to do in this situation is to get a Bentley manual and go through the checks. This way you can learn something about your car. How long has it been since you've replaced the fuel filter? If ever.

actually, i've never changed it. it looks... stock.

i'm changing it after work today. i have the filter on my desk.

i've never been able to find a bently. i have a pdf one for my e36, is there such a thing for the e30?

i do have the haynes manual... they're not as good tho.

              hmm...

well, i changed the filter. and it runs better.

but. it still died on me, and had difficulty starting after a drive to the store.

i checked the spark plug wires, and one actually fell out of the distributor. heh. damn used cars. i twisted it back on, til it felt tighter than a finger could pop off, and now the car's been idling for a while.

i think this could be my problem. in fact i'm almost positive.

              anyone agree?
